We never know how a single action can affect our future… Twelve years ago I participated in the first annual bike ride to support Camp Simcha, the flagship project of Chai Lifeline. We were a group of forty men with the goal of having a good time and raising some money for a worthy cause. What I experienced and what I have gained since was more than I could have ever known back then. My involvement led to my oldest son Eli becoming a counselor, a division head and now the head counselor of another Chai Lifeline project- Simcha Without Borders. My third son, Tzvi joined his older brother this summer as a staff member. They have travelled the country, setting up pop up day camps in multiple cities for children who are either battling sickness or have a family member that is ill. This year, as I ride again, I am doing so with tremendous appreciation for the opportunity. Not only for me but for my entire family. We have all benefited from being a part of this wonderful organization, doing our parts to put smiles on the faces of brave children fighting cancer and other life threatening diseases. This summer, I am excited to take part in Bike4Chai, an exhilarating 100-mile cycling event benefiting the children and families of Chai Lifeline. Every mile I ride and every dollar I raise will help support more than two-dozen essential programs for more than 6,000 children and families confronting pediatric illness, crisis, and loss. These services include counseling and case management, meals delivered to hospitals and homes, transportation to medical appointments, emergency financial assistance, insurance advocacy, i-Shine afterschool programming, Big Brothers/Sisters, Project Chai crisis intervention, and Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special, Chai Lifeline’s flagship medically-supervised summer programs. Life for a child with cancer, disability, or other serious illness is grueling. From the moment of diagnosis, Chai Lifeline’s dedicated staff and volunteers are there to provide joy, hope, and unparalleled care throughout the turbulent medical journey.
